Renegade Flower Farm is located on an 11-acre plot of land owned by 3 generations of the Slawter family of Garnet Valley. The original farmhouse was built in 1880 by the latest owner, John Slawter's, grandfather. John's grandfather was a craftsman who specialized in building spiral staircases & installed 2 sets of them in the farmhouse.

When the home went up for sale in the late 1800's, he ended up buying the entire property & raised John's father there who then raised John there. When John met his wife Irene (at church!), it was a no brainer that they would continue to live in John's childhood home & raise their twin daughters Dinah & Diane there as well.

JOHN & IRENE SLAWTER: John worked as a truck driver & owned Van Dyke Diesel tractor repair shop. At home on the farm, he kept busy growing hay, bailing it up for sale. His happy place was the field, spending every waking minute tending to the

John worked as a truck driver & owned Van Dyke Diesel tractor repair shop. At home on the farm, he kept busy growing hay, bailing it up for sale. His happy place was the field, spending every waking minute tending to the land.

Irene's happy place was the home & by that, we mean as the chef, mother & general contractor. She had every tool you could imagine & piles of "how to" magazines stacked high in the basement, teaching herself how to fix anything that went wrong in the home. She renovated, built & repaired everything in this beautiful home.

We adored John & Irene & are so grateful for the years we had getting to know them. We couldn't let their beloved home be torn down or their beloved field be built on. Everything that we do with this farm, we do in their memory. We want to honor all of their hard work & love for this sacred space.
